IDEAS

i'm still very keen on generic questions/topics like 'who' 'what' 'when' 'where' 'how'

'who' could be the contributor themself, someone in the band, someone in a song...

'where' could be a concert, the contributor's hometown,  somewhere a song takes them...

'how' could be the way they got hooked,  'when' the time....

and so on

i think the myriad answers/responses will help supply an answer to the question  at the heart of all of this - 'why?'

Not to state the obvious, but here I go, the three sections of the doco,

Say what we’re going to say,

Say it,

Say it again.

A semblance of a script is important to garner momentum.

Those without video cameras could string together a collage of photos (we have good photographers here already ie Capt Mission, Veleska) and then record your thoughts over the top of it. Simple software like Photostory can easily do this and can be converted to a movie file. Make sure you're in some of the shots at least (so it has a personal touch). Richard, maybe set up a private youtube account so demos can be uploaded?

'Not a Religion' is a perfect name.

That's an excellent point lily. We do need to establish a YouTube account so we can share our progress and get some feedback.

You mentioned Photostory but anyone who has Windows also has Movie Maker which will create a movie out of photos or film clips as well. You can then save it in several formats for CD, computer or YouTube. It's very easy to learn to use and some folks may not even realize they have it. But you can use it to string together several short film clips and cut out the parts you don't like or whatever. You can mix in some photos if you wish and add transitions between shots etc.

Mmmm, yes Moviemaker's what i use all the time.

If you are brand new to makin' movies and youre in dire straits LOL download Photo Story 3 (its free and doesnt take up much space - 5mb) and have a practise.

Below are instructions on how to create your movie using just photos you have, add sound and then convert it for Youtube (and it also has the download link).

Photo Story 3 instructionsRichard, did you want to set up a Youtube account for uploading videos or do you want me or someone else to? It would need the password to be emailed privately.

Do you have in mind that we would use the youtube account as a way of sharing low-res versions of all the contibutions and making decisions about how to put the master copy together?

Sounds like a really good way of collaborating on the editing.

How tricky is it to get videos converted and onto youtube? I remember you saying somewhere recently that it was time consuming - or was that more to do with the credits and stuff?

If we go with the musical chair camera option (18/4 post) the youtube uploading would not need to be done by the contibutors but could be sorted out as the recordings flood(!) in.

I'm happy to get the account started.

And thanks for commenting (and your emails). I know that your online Church commitments have been pretty extreme lately - make sure the lily doesn't run out of steam!

Richard, getting copyright permission is time consuming.

Im happy to bandy and contribute ideas; I've taught movie-making on and off at the school I work at for the last 5 years so have a few basic ideas. Short movies dont take long to do, its just getting a picture in your head first that can be hard and/or a rough script. A youtube account is just an idea to get some vids up there as incentive to inspire others? They dont need to be polished professional movie clips; some of the best made movies are rough n ready :)

ps yes, you wouldnt believe how extreme its been at church central lately but its been a pretty exciting year and just getting better.
